Carry on question, American airlines?

First time flying. I have One connection each way and will only be gone for a short time. Leaving on a friday morning coming back Monday afternoon.

I have been told to just pack everything lightly in a carry on. I want to bring several changes of cloths, toiletries, a straightener, make-up (going to a wedding) a book and my lap top.

So my questions are, can I bring the straightener and lap top in my carry oAnd what size bag is the biggest they will allow?

I will check my bag if I have to but i heard it’s easier not to.

My Grandson is in the Navy stationed at Coronado,CA. He has been home on leave,I want to send a homemade pecan pie back with him. Is permitted in a carryon? He leaves 27 aug 2011.

Louise, there’s no reason he couldn’t. Just put it in a baker’s cardboard box and everything should be okay!
