I’m going to LA from Seattle next week with Alaska Airlines. I have one bag i want to check in and use my northface backpack to put my labtop in and take on the plane. I know the first checked bag is free but is there a charge for taking a carry on bag? And would a recon northface backpack fit the restriction as a carry on bag?

No, there would be no fee from Alaska Airlines for carrying a bag on the plane with you. I would check the airline’s website for size restrictions on carry-on luggage.
