Airline Carry On Rules For Luggage

Hi,
I have two questions that I have not been able to figure on on deltas website.
First, I understand the rules about liquids on carry on baggage, but does the same rules apply for you checked baggage? Or can you bring just your normal stuff??
Also, I wanted to take my purse with me for carry one, and it says you are allowed one carry on bag and one personal item on, but i need my purse and also camera bag (im flying for work), is there anyway around this since both are considers personal items? I thought if I packed the camera bag inside of my small duffel that might work, but its really no different besides the outside bag.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
For the camera and pruse thing, what if i just packed my purse within my check baggage and packed a small wallet with my licens and a little big of cash, and other small items i needed in my camera case? Would that be okay?
