I work for TSA @ Chicago Midway, and the answer to your question is yes, you can. . . only time you bring any liquids in hand luggage. Even the ice packs are not allowed. Any other food you paste it (tomato sauce, peanut butter, etc), or contains some kind of preservative fluid cups of fruit syrup (, jelly, etc.) are not allowed. If you have further questions, you should go to the TSA. gov and contact us.

Yes, I have taken carrots, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, lettuce, celery, and turnips on my flight before in a small carry-on. As long as the groceries and produce are fresh, the airline will likely not even know and probably won’t stop you.
