Carry-on luggage restrictions regarding liquids: solid deodorant, chapstick?



I have a national (U.S.) flying at the end of the month and would like to stay with just baggage. As with the TSA “3-1-1″ rule, liquids and gels. . . What exactly is part of a “liquid” or “gel”? “I can use my solid deodorant package separately? What about lipstick?
