Are hair Straighteners allowed on planes in a carry on bag?



I am flying for my first time and really do not know what to do. I saw it on Delta Airlines (the airline we are), but could not find a hair iron to carry in the bag. I know he was in the baggage biut I will not have the baggage, I have the intention to place one hand luggage and a backpack under my seat. plz help and advice for air travelers. thx!
