Airline Carry On Rules For Luggage

I’m flying to Vegas on Saturday and my airlines are Northwest Airlines and Delta.. I want to avoid having checked luggage so I’m just going to do carry-on. My first question is for both airlines the carry-on limit is 22”x 14”x 9”. What does this mea(Basically which is for height, width, etc.

Also both airlines allow me to bring another personal item such as a purse or small backpack. My second question is if I bring a pillow and little blanket with me does the pillow and blanket count as extra carry-on luggage? I can try and stuff the blanket in my backpack but the pillow I cannot.. so will the airline still let me bring the pillow on the flight or tell me I can’t bring it?

Note: The pillow is a standard size pillow that you use for beds/sleeping.
