Maximum allowable luggage dimensions for airplane carry-ons?
I just bought a new samsonite upright suitcase because I plan to do a lot of traveling. But I have a small phobia of baggage claim and always try to avoid it. Would a 25. 5x18x9. 5 suitcase fit in the overhead compartment?

if you can carry it on your back or hold it up with ease then you should be able to carry it on. BUT if it is too heavy the airlines may charge you more or tell you to put it down in the hold
The 25 and 9in are not a problem but the 18in might be. Most airlines allow 25x14x9. I know Untied and American have enlarged there overhead bins but don’t know if it’s over 18in tall. It may or may not fit. If you are flying a small jet or regional jet, I know it will not fit but they will bring you back back up the the jet bridge if you have to gate check it. If you really want to try it, you can. You may just have to gate check it if does not fit.
