Are There Any Rules About A Carry-on Bag If You Going On An Airplane?

They have to fit into the compartment. Some airlines have a box at the gate where you can put your luggage in and see if it will fit
You usually are allowed one carry on (luggage), and one personal item (backpack, purse, laptop bag)
When you get onboard, and there is no more room in the overhead compartments, you will have to put it under the seat in front of you (if it fits), or the airline will check it for free

  1. Yes. Each airline has their own rules regarding carry-ons. Generally there is a size restriction, and usually also a weight restriction. There are also generally restricted or prohibited items that you won’t be allowed to carry on in your bag(s). This includes the liquid limitations for US flights. Check the airline’s baggage policies on their website for details. All of these are generally checked for as you pass through security. Smaller planes may have additional restrictions beyond the airline’s general rules, and these might be noted on your flight confirmation, or might be sprung on you as you try boarding the plane.
Best bet is to read over and understand the airline’s baggage policies before you start packing. Make note of any special conditions that might be listed on your flight confirmation or tickets. Also research and understand any additional restrictions imposed by the country you are traveling to/from/within. All this info should be online and pretty easy to find.

  2. Yes there are. The first person is wrong in that there are not weight restrictions, but there are size restrictions. Be sure you know the dimensions your airline allows, or you will end up having to check it for $25 at least. Don’t bring any weapons, flamables, and keep your liquids under 3ozs.

  3. Yes. It cannot be over a certain weight. Cannot have any items in it that are over 3 ounces. You cannot bring any pocket knives or matches or lighters, etc…
