Yes as long as it fits under the seat or in the overhead bin. Check with your airline for its regulations on dimensions and be sure to pack all liquids larger than 3 oz. in your checked luggage.
Yes, book bags and backpacks are allowed but will be subject to x-ray/search. You are allowed 1 carry-on and 1 personal item. Personal item is a purse, portfolio, or a briefcase/laptop. Carry-ons must be able to fit in the overhead or under the seat in front of you, otherwise they will have you check them at the gate and they will be returned to you at your arrival gate.
Oh, yeah… liquids… they are having a big stink about liquids now. Toothpaste, lotion, gel, anything that even resembles a liquid must be placed in a plastic zip-loc bag and the total of all liquids you are bringing must be less than 3oz. You can bring as much as you like in your checked baggage, this rule is just for carry-ons.
Oh, and if you have one of those tiny little scissors in your toiletry kit (for trimming facial hair), better take it out or they’ll snag it at security.
Yeah, actually US Airways is getting real bad about their baggage rules. You can view their policies on baggage here: http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/tra…
If you have not done so already, you can get online and set your seat assignment. They will actually show you a map of the plane and what seats are available. Within 24 hours of your flight you can even check-in for the flight online and print-out your boarding passes. This is especially handy if you are not checking any bags. You can go straight to your gate when you get to the airport and skip the line at baggage check. Use the “Check-in” tab on their main site: http://www.usairways.com/awa/
