Is It Wise To Carry Climbing Chalk When Traveling On An Airplane?

I have done it once and didn’t have any problem. If you are really worried about it, you could bring some in a factory sealed and labeled package – it doesn’t contain anything that isn’t allowed – and you could print the current list of prohibited items and bring it with you – chalk isn’t a liquid, a gel or on the list – so it is allowed.http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/p…

  1. You ask because it looks like drugs? A quick sniff from a drugs dog would show that it isn’t.
Or because you think it looks like explosives? The other answerers seem to think it wouldn’t be a problem, I can’t see that it would be either..

  2. I’ve never had a problem.
I tend to carry my gear just slung over my shoulder, they don’t even blink twice at my quickdraws and cams.
Just make sure your bag is closed!

  3. I have and as yet haven’t run into any problems. I could imagine though an over zealot security personnel being a little freaked. I think the likely hood that you will be given problems is low.

  4. I do and I have not had any problems.
