  1. You can bring pretty much whatever you want. Note (in the cited site) that the restrictions on sizes of certain items like pudding, etc. is still 3 oz. or less.
And a nice thing is that food you bring in does not count as part of your carry on, so you can have a bag, a purse, and a bag of food.

  2. What I have done in the past is packed a few sandwiches and other items and carried them on in my backpack, which went thru carry-on screening, however, if you are in doubt, buy items after screening. Soft drinks can be purchases after passing thru screening, and are definitely removed AT screening. (You want to avoid any delays caused by having an item removed, and yourself interviewed/interrogated.) Any particular rules on AA can be gotten by contacting them directly, however, it is the rules established by Homeland Security that apply to what you can bring on. I have added that link below. Happy travels.

  3. Get a sandwich from one of the concessions in airport.
Don’t get any drinks. They serve them on the plane.

  4. Well you get food on the plane. But if you want to bring your own it might be best to just bring a sanwich or salad but something light that you can just eat quickly because you don’t want to bloat on a plane. Also if your bringing a drink its like nothing more that 50ml.
