    nearly all airlines allow one carry-on, which will be stored in the overhead compartment, and one personal item, which will be stored under the seat in front of you (by your feet). personal item could be a purse, camcorder case, breifcase, or whatever.
    i usually take on a backpack for my personal item, and a small sized dufful bag (20″) for my carry-on.
