Can I Carry My Ski Boots Onto The Airplane?

I’m going to ski camp in a week an a half and dont really want to check my boots with my other luggage in case it gets delayed. Can I just clip my boots to the side of my ski pack im usin for my carry on or do I have to have them enclosed in a boot bag?

  1. I never never never never check my boots. They always travel with me on the plane, even if that means they become my carry-on. You can always rent skis & bindings if you need to for a couple of days, but no hardcore skier will ever rent a pair of boots – they are just too important. Especially if you have custom foot beds. Since you’re heading to ski camp, I’m assuming this statement applies to you.
My preferred method (and I’ve gone all over the world with my skis) has always been to string my boots together with the power bands, and then toss them over the top of my backpack so that the toes are sticking into the back of my armpits. Then once I’m on the plane, the boots go under the seat in front of me and the pack goes up above the aisle. Like I said though, if you have to choose one or the other, the boots go on the plane with you.

  2. Yes, but I would recommend using a ski bag. Just make sure you get one big enough for your boots, but small enough for the overhead compartment. With the carry-on limits imposed by airlines, it would be wise to put some of your ski clothes in the boot bag with your boots.
Last season, I took 3 ski trips requiring air travel, and carried-on my boot bag with no problems. My bag is big enough to fit my boots and helmet, but small enough to fit in the overhead compartment. I only check my boots on returning flights, when I’m too tired to carry them through airports.

  3. Going on ski trips is heavy and with most airlines charging for bags over 50 pounds taking your boots as carry on is definitely the best option because they are one of the heaviest components. Just clipping them is totally legit you don’t need them enclosed in anything. I always carried mine on (just boots not even clipping them to a bag) and I’ve never had issues.

  4. u should really check this with the airline because is they cannot scan through the entire boot they will
    a) take them nd not give them back incase of bombs , wepons etc
    b) cut them / force them open and well u’ll have no boot left this happened with my camcorder i just totally wanted to sue them as then disembeled my camcorder on my way back from italy and i had to buy a new one as they did not put it back together and completly broke it

  5. i’m pretty sure you can just carry em’ but it probably depends on how pissy the airline is.
