YES you can, the link to the TSA website given by the person who said no specifically permits you to carry them on board. Looks like they all just guessed.
They are under the Makeup, Medication, Personal Items & Special Needs Devices. on the line “Knitting and Crochet Needles”
Have fun crocheting.
You are supposed to be able to, but sometimes they still don’t let you. A good solution I’ve found to get around it is to buy plastic knitting needles and use those for knitting on planes. Red Heart has a line of plastic knitting needles and crochet hooks that are designed for kids who are learning to knit and crochet. The knitting needles are only about 8 inches long, but they come in most sizes and are just as sturdy as the metal ones. And I’ve never had a problem getting them through airport security in the United States or Canada.
Yes, safety restrictions do allow knitting/crocheting needles, however security officials have the right to take them should they think they may be used as a weapon. Crochet needles carry virtually no risk, but I would bring plastic knitting needles over metal ones.
Unfortunately no unless they’ve recently changed the rules. Try going to your local airport authority website, your Federal FAA governmental website or your airline’s website they will all carry a list of what is and is not allowed to be brought on board.
I’ve posted below the site for the United States FAA for a starting point.
No, not in the United States anyway.
No you cannot. Homeland Security is afraid that you might try to knit an Afghan.
