Where Does Your Carry On Luggage Go In An Airplane?

My husband and I are in disagreement over where the carry on luggage goes in an airplane when not stored overhead. Is it under your seat or under the seat in front of you?

Under the seat in front of you…although, mine always ends up under mine!

  2. Most airline seats have a bar which prevents you from putting your own carry-on under your own seat. If they don’t fit in the overhead bin, the next spot would be under the seat in FRONT of you. (I always wonder if the person sitting there can feel baggage beneath them). The crew also has what is called the “Captain’s Closet” they may offer you to store your carry-on. It is literally where the Pilot/Copilot and Crew keep their personal baggage and carry-on items, so there is often no room there either. When in doubt – check it in, and only take what you’ll REALLY need.
    The Guidelines are as follows:
One carry-on bag under 45” total**, and with measurements within 22” x 14” x 9” guidelines, weighing less than 40* lbs total
One “personal item” such as briefcase, purse or laptop bag also not exceeding above measurements.
