Carry On Airplane: Is It Possible To Bring Eye Cleaner & Solution That Is Slightly More Than 3oz?

I can’t find anywhere in the store of 3oz or less of eye cleaner and solution for my contact lens. How will I be able to carry this o I don’t want to send my luggage in for pick up.
Has anyone have trouble with these products going through an airport? (Especially the SFO San Francisco one)?

  1. I would suggest that you just pack that item in the 1 qt. clear zip lock bag, even though its bigger then the 3 oz. size and you should be ok. Thats what I have done with my contact solution when traveling and have not had a problem.

  2. why not :
    a. Wear glasses for the flight
    b. Empty out some of the liquid until only 3oz remains
    or
    c. Buy some once you get through security
I’m sure you’ll solve your problem using one of the above!
    Regards from Scotland!

  3. I would not take any chances , put some in a smaller bottle or just buy some more when you get to your destination. I don’t know if there are any size adjustments for certain items, but you can call the airport or the TSA for leaving home.

  4. The airlines put my eye solution in a little baggie.

  5. You will not get ANY container on that is more that 3.5 oz, even if it is a half empty 6.0 oz. Can you buy several travel sized drops? Or can you get several empty containers that are travel sized and divide the drops out. I travelled 3 weeks ago,I did this with an OTC med and it was acceptable.

  6. I wouldn’t recommend transferring into a smaller container… I think you risk contaminating the sterile solution.
How about this… according to the TSA link you are allowed to have more than 3 oz. of saline, and cleaners typically come in really small containers anyway (like less than 1oz). Could you just use the cleaner along with the saline and skip the solution? Of course, I would ask your eye doctor to make sure it is OK.
Finally, Renu claims they are the only company to sell a 2oz bottle of solution ( http://www.bausch.com/en_US/consumer/vis… ), but I haven’t seen it in any stores. Here’s a link to buy it online. http://www.minimus.biz/detail.aspx?ID=79…

  7. You’ll have to have the required size limit in a plastic bag or else they will make you throw it away.
You can transfer it into a different container, or check your bags. You may also have to buy some when you get off the plane, but remember, it’s for your safety so don’t give them a hard time :-P

  8. Depends on who’s doing security.

  9. Contact solution is not subjected to the 3oz rule. You are allowed to carry up to a 4-5 oz bottle of contact solution because it is considered a medical supply! Hope this helps!

  10. No, the one in NYC did a bag check and took away my eye glass cleaner even though the bottle was half empty. I wouldn’t try it! Just buy a smaller bottle wherever you’re landing or go without.

Eye drops – You are allowed to carry a 3 oz. or smaller container of eye drops in a clear, one-quart plastic bag. There is no restriction on the amount you may carry, but containers greater than 3 oz. must be declared to the Security Officer and cannot be carried in your clear, one-quart bag.

  12. The suggestion that you can carry 3 oz of liquid in a larger container is definitely wrong. I witnessed it first hand. The container must be no larger than 3 oz, regardless of how full it is.
That said … there is an exception for eye cleaners and solutions. “To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of the following liquids, gels and aerosols are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary (all exceptions must be presented to the security officer in front of the checkpoint):” Eye solutions are on the list. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/p…
