Airline Carry-on Rules?

I am taking a flight on US Airways from PNS to DCA (and back) on June 21. I took two similar trips (both on AirTran). The first was in Winter 07, and I had a larger carry-on bag (one of those rolling ones). The second time was Summer 08 and I brought a simple backpack that time.
However, this time, I plan on bringing a laptop bag and that larger carry-on for the plane ride. Would this be alright? I’ve never had a laptop to carry with me before and with all these new flight changes I’ve been hearing for the past year, I just want to be sure. Also, what can I do to prepare for the flight with what I plan to bring?

  1. Most airlines allow one check-on bag plus one “personal item”, where personal item is defined as a laptop bag, briefcase, musical instrument case, purse or other smaller bag. Most airlines will also let you carry a jacket or other hand-held items. It is important to note that if you are carrying even a purse it may be counted as your personal item, so be prepared to stow it away into one of your other bags as you go through check-in.
Most airline guidelines require that fully packed bags weigh less than 40 or 50 lbs (depending on the airline and region). In our experience, those are very reasonable guidelines, and for most travelers, bags will not exceed 25 lbs or so.
    Good Luck.
Remember to always check with your airline before flying for detailed guidelines.

  2. You can bring two bags. A roll aboard and a computer bag would be fine. When you go through security you will have to remove the computer from the bag and put it through separately as the security screeners need to be able to see the computer without obstructions. When you fly domestically you can carry two bags.

  3. that is not a problem. you can take one carry on bag (for overhead bins) and one “personal bag” such as a purse, briefcase or laptop bag. however you will sacrifice all your leg room.

  4. bring a duffel bag and your laptop case for carry on

  5. yeah you should be fine :)
