Can Anyone In The Airline Profession Tell Me If Commercial Flights Carry Oxygen For Individual Use?

My sister is getting over phneumonia and is a little anxious. She would feel better knowing that they had oxygen in the unlikely case that she would need it travelling this Thursday.

  1. They do carry oxygen on every flight, though it’s meant for use in case of fire (To let pilots/cabin crew do their work in a smoke filled cabin) and as such it’s not medical oxygen. (Doesn’t contain the same amount of moisture that medical oxygen does.)
But airlines can and will provide oxygen for medical use as well, though you will have to call and talk to them beforehand to set up the details.

  3. I work for USAirways and I know that we do not carry oxygen for personal use. If she needs oxygen, the only device allowed on our airline is a Portable Oxygen Concentrator. You would want to check with the individual airline to see what they provide or what is allowed to carry on.
